Feng Shui For Children

The problems in children pertain to disobedience, lack of concentration in studies, lack of confidence and security. Feng Shui can be applied to resolve these situations.

By analyzing the map of their Four Pillars, an experienced practitioner can discern the lack of or excess of elements within the map and thereby recommend a balanced presence of elements within their living space. Usually a color change to the walls of their bedroom or a reorganization of furniture is sufficient.

Often a change to their sleeping or sitting directions, according to the Eight Mansions Theory, can provide great improvements in behavior.

Pune Baby Tanishka

A Child’s Bedroom

If it is a duo purpose bedroom, for sleep and play, create separate areas. Rooms should be furnished to support them and their needs as they grow.

Make sure that they are not allocated a bedroom at the end of a corridor.

Do not mount pictures of fierce animals.

Watch out for protruding corners of walls or columns pointing at their bed.

Never have their beds positioned in such a way that they sleep with their head or feet pointing directly at the door.

The best position for a bed is where they have a view of the door.

The bed should have a solid wooden headboard.

Wooden beds are better than metal beds because metal beds are said to be conductors of electromagnetic fields.

Do not place a bed under a window or under a beam or roof joist.

Do not have a TV or computer in the bedroom.

Health and Astrology

The health of a person depends upon various factors other than his genetic predisposition. The energy field of the place one lives in also has an effect upon him. His karma and efforts also play an important role. According to astrology, the type of illness a person is prone to suffer from can be determined. Also the period of illness (onset and duration) can be predicted. Astrology can give precaution, suggest prevention and if there is any disease, it can also help find ways to treatment. In some complicated or difficult to diagnose cases, even doctors or medical practitioners do seek Astrological guidance.

As per Vedic or Indian Astrology, there are twelve houses in a horoscope along 360 degrees. Each house equals 30 degrees. The twelve houses represent different body parts. Besides, there are nine planets, which also have their influence on various organs of the body. The placement of planets, their strength and mutual aspects can affect health in different ways.

Astrology helps analyzing situations that cause imbalance in the state of mind that can affect health. Balancing the mind is a very basic essential requirement in treating diseases. Astrology can help through various healing methods to attain balance and good health; such as gem stone, mantras or worships (poojas in hindi)
Astrological advice should however never do away with proper medical care or your physician’s prescription.

Case Studies:

Birth and death are not in our hands. Astrology can help leading a smooth life, by telling us the weak areas in our mind and body and remedies for the same. Astrology can certainly save us from a lot of confusion and anxiety.

Case 1

Through astrological analysis, a gentleman was advised that he could have heart problem. Though he had no symptoms but when he went for investigations, three major blockages were detected in the cardiac arteries! Getting treated at the right time, this turned out a life saving astrological advice for him.

Case 2

A gentleman had a lot of symptoms indicating heart problem. He was extremely distressed by them. He could not find any clear diagnosis as all the reports were normal. When his suffering continued with no relief or proper diagnosis, he consulted Astrology.

Based upon astrology, it was indicated that he has stomach related problems instead. Further medical tests confirmed it, and all his ‘heart symptoms’ were found to be a reflex arising from the stomach problems. Finally he got the right treatment.

Astrology - A Science Or Blind Faith?

It has always been a topic of heated debate that astrology is blind faith or a systematic method of understanding a person’s life.

Astrology has been emulated in the Vedas and is known to scholars since ancient times.

It is a method of mapping out the exact positions of the planets in relation to the place of birth of a person at a specific time. This is called the ‘horoscope’.

Predictions are made based upon some basic knowledge of the person’s background, as these are the basic points of reference.

The horoscope is a guide which tells us about the inclinations of the person in terms of his potential of progressing, or degressing from this basic reference point.

This can be with reference to his mental attributes, his health, interpersonal relations, fame, wealth, success etc.

Just as a cardiologist can judge the state of the heart by looking at the ECG, provided he can correlate with clinical findings, an astrologer needs to correlate with the person’s basic points of reference.

A horoscope cannot tell the gender of a person, or that what has transpired in the past as there can be numerous possibilities in the absence of any reference point, i.e. the basic correct data of the individual.

This has been used to misinterpret astrology and defame it by many so called ‘scientists’, and ‘rationalists’.

A horoscope can predict the possible dangers and risks in specific areas in a person’s life, so that he can take measures to prepare himself and find alternative ways for the same.

Man has greatly advanced in science and astronomy. We have reached the planets, and people claim that planets have no such effect upon the humans as astrology describes. Considering this as true, why can we not understand that the position of planets in a horoscope are a graph or a measuring instrument which in its various specific patterns indicate something important for each individual at any point of time?

Also we must understand and acknowledge that there are many phenomena in nature that we have not been able to understand completely. That never means that they are untrue!

It would be more useful to understand the scope and limitations of astrology in order to gain benefit from it for humankind at large.

INTUITION:

Everyone has an access to the collective subconscious knowledge. One has to train and understand the mind to enable it to access this knowledge. Just as light will enter into a dark room depending upon the nature of the windows, a clouded mind or a mind that has a biased outlook is able to only partially perceive it, and may not be able to correctly interpret it. An unbiased mind can have intuition.

Intuition is the state of being aware of or knowing something without having to discover or perceive it, or the ability to do this.

In an astrological practice, predictions are made based upon a diagram of the planetary positions at the time of birth. The predictions related to politics, countries, or natural calamities are based upon astrological calculations described under ‘mediniya bhavishya’. In this the horoscope of the political party, country or state, or the party leader is studied.

There is a 40% element of intuition which guides an astrologer to speak in the right direction, as there can be a number of possibilities involved in the astrological aspects.

So an astrologer has to take care to keep his mind free of bias, and handle it gently to protect from negative influence.

Spiritual reading, jaap, meditation and yagna are of great help.

Vastu and Feng Shui

It is imperative that two of the well-known Eastern design methods-Feng-Shui (China) and Vastushastra (India) are understood in a proper perspective, as both these disciplines in their own ways define the relationship between man and the cosmos.

In Chinese language Feng means wind & Shui means water, implying thereby that the technique involves balancing of the cosmic element water & the cosmic quality “wind” in a system to achieve harmony with the cosmic forces. Fengshui and Vastushastra both aim at removing obstructions so that energy can flow freely, which creates environmental harmony.

Feng Shui is a science incorporating astronomy, geography, the environment, the magnetic fields and physics. Feng Shui is not a religion or superstition – modern science has proven it to be a complex mathematical system. Vaastushastra has clear-cut definitions- Vastu means abode or a house & shastra means science or technology, i.e. it is the scientific method of house construction.

Vaastu is one of the most ancient sciences of architecture and is composed of specific rules, regulations and directions, set down by sages of the vedic times. For the current society it is the highly evolved, comprehensive building philosophy. In this directions, locations, shapes and interiors are the main aspects of designing the building according to vaastu.

Vastushastra considers a house to be a living soul, having prana. Fengshui scripts denote water, fire, wood, gold and earth as the basic five elements forming the entire universe with wind as the special quality attainable by these elements.

Vastushastra scriptures stress that every living and non-living entity, for that matter the entire world, is created out of the Panch-Maha-Bhutas – earth, water, fire, wind & ether. “Ether” is considered the most important element in this system, as every possible transformation from one element to the other has to be routed through Akashtatva only. Vastushastra has its own system of Vastu-Chakras, which is used in conjunction with Astrology; Astronomy & Yogashastra for site-selection & a magnetic compass decides the directional aspect. Interestingly, both the systems insist on N.S. orientation for a structure.

Feng-Shui considers a land having reddish or yellowish soil as a good geomantic land. Vastushastra considers a land with white & yellow coloured soil for house construction. Red coloured soil is tolerated in Vastushastra, but a site with black soil is prescribed for construction purposes, as such lands are prone to water-logging problems- a kind of environmental pollution. Feng-Shui insists that a body of water should flow in front of the main entrance of the house. There is no preferred direction of water flow as Feng-shui allows positioning of the main entrance in any directions, depending on the birth year of the owner of the house. Vastushastra on the other hand considers water flow in the direction N.E. to the Vastu as a beneficial factor with lunar-shaped (Chandrakar) N.E. directional flow as a pointer to frame & prosperity.

A major discrepancy in both these disciplines pertains to the direction of ventilator openings. Feng-shui considers N. as evil & prefers S. direction for window openings. In contrast Vastushastra dictates the position of windows should be in the N.E.or N.E. directions only. Feng-Shui attempts to offer the households protection against yellow dust and sand which the chinese mainland receives from the deserts situated on the N. border of that country. Vastushastra follows scientific logic in selection of the window directions, in the sense that it considers the beneficial effects of early morning sunlight.

Location & design of rooms in Feng-Shui are based on the traditional Le-Shu grid of nine squares which assigns different directions. In Vastushastra the location of rooms are designated in the Vastu Purush Mandal, consisting of nine squares as influenced by the journey of the sun in its various phases.

To be sure, there are also differences between the two ancient arts. In Vastu Shastra, the North direction is generally regarded as auspicious because it is regarded as a source of magnetic energy. The East direction is also regarded as auspicious because this direction is the source of solar (sun) energy. In contrast, in Feng Shui, the North direction is generally regarded as inauspicious. This is because in China, the North direction is where the sands and cold winds from Mongolia blow from. In Feng Shui, the South and Southeast direction is generally regarded as auspicious as the warmth of sun can be felt from these directions.

Because of the differences in their philosophies, there are also important differences in their practice. In Vastu Shastra, the cooking stove in the kitchen should generally be placed on the right while the sink should be placed on the left. In Feng Shui, the basic principle on the cooking stove and sink is that they must not be facing each other. Moreover, in Vastu Shastra, sleeping with head pointing to the South or East directions is considered auspicious while as in Feng Shui, the sleeping direction should generally be in accordance to the person`s auspicious directions. In Vastu Shastra, big or heavy furniture like sofa, TV, radio equipment, etc should be placed at the South or Southwest sector of a house. This will leave more space in the North and East area – considered to be auspicious. In Feng Shui, these furniture should generally be placed at the North sector, directly opposite the auspicious South sector.

The globalization wave ensured everything from footwear to dresses to TV programs were made available to Indian homes from foreign countries. Along with consumer products and other services, there were also cultural influences being exchanged / shared across continents. No wonder then, Feng Shui made its way to India.

When Feng Shui first arrived at India, there were some who instantly got hold of it, more of fascination than for the true authenticity behind the science. The persistent commercialization saw Feng Shui spreading its awareness amongst a larger audience. And with this, came many misconceptions, myths, false beliefs pre-dominantly due to each one construing Feng Shui from his / her perspective. In India, Feng Shui immediately was put on the table for comparison with Vaastu Shastra. Two sciences, centuries old, were being compared for their pros and cons, by people who didnt know either sciences well. The result obviously wouldnt have been conclusive. But then it was good enough for people banking on superficial feedbacks to frame their own opinions about Vaastu or Feng Shui.

Both Vaastu and Feng Shui are ancient sciences from India and China respectively, and attempt to attain the common objective of harmonizing nature with the living. The objective is the same, though the method is different. The science is nearly the same, though the application is different.

Vaastu means the abode or the home and Shastra means the technology or method. Hence, Vaastu Shastra translates to the method or mechanism to construct a (good) house and gives the guidelines to make such a conducive abode. Vaastu Shastra is normally applied on a bounded premise ie: a house, a building, a shop, factory etc. The main objective of applying the Shastra is to create a balance between the place in question and the outside environment. Vaastu Shastra in the Indian context assumes significant importance at the time of construction. It is believed that if a house is built as per the Shastra, then that particular house will never face serious health & money problems and the family members will live in harmony. TIME or the OCCUPANT does not bound Vaastu Shastra. It means the Vaastu principles can be applied at any time or any year for any person living in a particular place in the same standardized manner. (Does it mean that all the residents of a building built according to Vaastu principles enjoy the same type of luck?)

Feng Shui too aims to strike this balance between the outside environment and the “living”. The difference being that Feng Shui is done not just at the “house” level but is percolated down to the individuals living in that place. Its very easy to note that, NOT all people living under the same roof done as per Vaastu derive the same magnitude of benefits. It is here that Feng Shui principles can be applied to the individuals living in that premise. Feng Shui incorporates the time factor and hence with the changing times, the “recommendations” given by a Feng Shui consultant would also change depending on the period when the principles are applied. Feng Shui also takes into consideration the individual on whom the “recommendations” are being applied, and again the “recommendations” would vary from individual to individual for a given place and a given time.

Vaastu is normally rigid as far as the nature and its rules are concerned. Feng Shui offers flexibility in terms of curing disharmonies between nature and the individual or atleast minimizing the negative impacts. Both the sciences need to be understood in full perspective before one goes about deciding which one is the better option for you. It would be much more than an unreasonable effort to pick out pieces of information from either science suiting ones convenience & applying them in partial with little knowledge or hear-say talks.

While the Vaastu – Feng Shui fight / debates may interest some, it is to be said and reasonably well asserted here that, the principles governed in these sciences are bound to work and always working, irrespective of the individuals belief in those sciences. It would really be wonderful if serious practitioners get to the task of aligning these sciences and integrate them as a composite science for the benefit of the modern generation. This would also minimize people being victimized in the name of these sciences or getting quick fixes to their problems.

Both the sciences with centuries of history behind them, have been victims of superstitions, false interpretations of the underlying principles (especially by the so called practitioners) and been used more on a “as per convenience” basis than in its true spirit.

The primary difference is that part of Feng Shui`s theory is based on a regional concern that sandstorms, blowing from the north, made a northern entrance to the home unacceptable, whereas Vastu favors entrances on the north and east. Vastu is based on science. Feng Shui is based on local geographic considerations and traditions. They both utilize the five elements; however, Vastu uses earth, water, fire, air and space; whereas Feng Shui replaces earth and space with wood and metal. We have found Vastu Shastra to be more effective for our personal use and for the benefit of our clients.

Beginning of Happiness through Vastu

The human race has been running after happiness from the very beginning of civilization. As time passes by the exploitations to find happiness gradually increases. According to Hindu mythology as well as from modern point of view, happiness of the entire family or a society depends on their habitat to a greater extent. If a family gets up in a sunny, healthy morning instead of damp & gloomy one, they feel that everything in their lives is perfect & positive. Because people always crave for natural nourishment as it provides them a healthy mind as well as strength to overcome all the obstacles in their lives.

Generally, people believe that North facing and East facing plots or flats are perfect whereas South facing should be totally avoided. For this reason, people sometimes pay extra money to buy a North or East facing plot. But, this is actually a misconception. Plots facing South or West need not be avoided as they are by no means bad. Another misconception among people is that since according to Hindu mythology North is the direction for Lord Kuber (God of wealth) & South is the direction for Yama (God of death), North facing plot would be influenced by Kuber & South facing plot would be influenced by Yama. Because of this misconception people prefer North facing plot instead of a South facing one.

But, those who posses plot or flat facing south & West directions need not panic. Vaastu reinforces the fact that all directions will have more or less same effects as long as the inner layout of the plot or flat is designed as per Vaastu principles. North or East directions are still preferred by Vaastu because designing the layout of the flat or plot-according Vaastu becomes easier if the plot is a North or East facing one. For instance, Vaastu says bedrooms should be in South or West directions. If the plot or flat is South facing or West facing, then bedroom can not be put in South or West i.e., near the entrance. Designing the house according to Vaastu becomes a difficult in such cases.

However, the most important thing that needs to be remembered is that the design of the inner layout is more important than the directions in which the plot or flat is facing. A properly designed house in a South or West-facing plot would yield more positive results than an improperly designed house in a North or East facing plot. Again, a North facing plot with a service lane towards South or a South facing plot with a service lane towards.

North would result the same, the only important thing being the internal layout of the house. In any case, in Vaastu ratings, only 10% goes to the direction that the plot is facing and the rest goes to layout, size, surroundings, inclination of directions, slopes etc.

The preference for directions depends on the size of the plot. In a bigger plot the preference is according to NEWS (North, East, West, and South) and in smaller plot the preference is ENWS. This is because, in bigger plots, we can leave open area for drive away and setbacks. So, it can accommodate the positive energy by the desired directions. But in small plots one can not leave such open areas, so East facing is preferred for direct accommodation of sunlight in the house. Another important thing to consider regarding the size of the plot is its length – breadth ratio which should be 1:2 or up to maximum of 1:2.

As far as the entrance of the house is concerned, there are good and bad directions in all the four sides i.e. North, South, East and West. In North direction, North – East from North is good for entrance and not North – West from North. In East direction, too, entrance should be in North – East from East. Other good directions for entrance are South – East from South and North – West from West. Openings in the form of windows & doors should be more towards North & East. The surface area of the opening should be given important as positive energy comes from North & East. There is no point having large openings towards South or West directions especially South – West corner Should be closed.

According to Vaastu the slope of the plot should be towards North & East. South & West areas should be high.

Usually, with the help of a properly designed layout, one can have a perfect habitat instead of giving preference just to the facing of the plot or the house. Vaastu makes it crystal clear that the things that can bring happiness in a house are internal as well as external. So, people can design their house properly by giving importance to its internal layout as well as its external surroundings for maintaining healthy & peaceful atmosphere in the house as well as earning prosperity, wealth & wisdom.

Vastu & Ageing

Ageing

Aging is inevitable, but its most negative effects can be minimized and turned into a graceful progression. Exercise and proper diet are key factors. But, when your living or working environment is in harmony with nature, it has a positive influence on your well being, slowing the aging process.

In nature, all five elements (earth, water, fire, air and space) are in perfect symmetry. As a building is erected, that equilibrium is disrupted. Vastu Shastra is an ancient architectural science that balances the five elements and supports stress free living or working spaces. As an integral part of this earth, we live in a sea of electromagnetic and stellar influences. Every particle of energy is linked to the next particle. Every shift occurring in this atmosphere has the potential to affect our lives and actions. According to Vastu Shastra, the sun produces different qualities of energy on its path from east to west and can influence our existence.

Each of the five elements is associated with a compass point and each point has a specific impact on our health. Different aspects of positive aging are optimally supported by a specific direction. Aging is also affected by environmental stress, which is the cause of most human disease.

The earth is a magnetic force and is composed of the five elements, as is our brain. The thalamus is the relay center for all sensory and motor skills in the brain. Neurological research has shown that the firing patterns of neurons in the thalamus function differently depending on which direction one is facing. Our mind is then the interactive result of the affect of the magnetic field on our brain cells. By placing our bodies and environments in alignment with the magnetic axis, we can think and act more compatibly with nature. Our actions will be more attuned to the five elements, much like swimming with the stream as opposed to swimming against it. For example, studies have shown that sleeping with ones head to the south or east puts one in accord with the powerful forces of nature.

The northeast area of your residence is associated with the water element. This direction is the source of favorable magnetic energy from the north and positive solar energy from the east. Our residence needs to be very open in the northeast to receive these benefits. The northeast influences growth of the physical body. The northeast is good for home entrances. If this region has proper Vastu Shastra, good health will be supported. If there is a kitchen, clutter, a toilet, heating system or blockage in the northeast the water element will be decreased which will cause congestion.

The southeast area of your residence coincides with the fire element. The southeast influences the energy required for good health. Kitchens, heating and electrical systems work well in the southeast. If this area is in accordance with Vastu Shastra health will be better. If there is a cut or blockage, there will be a lack of energy and health will suffer.

The southwest area of your residence is aligned with the earth element. The southwest contributes to the strength of your body. If your bed is in the south, or southwest area of your residence with your head to the south or east, you will be vigorous. If there is a cut, toilet or heating source, there will be some health and back problems.

The northwest area of your residence is linked with the air element. The northwest influences mental stability. Toilets and guest bedrooms work well in the northwest. If there is a cut or blockage there will be mental instability, stomach problems and an inability to learn effectively. The central area of a residence is related with the space element. When this area is open there will be good emotional health. If there is clutter, toilets, a kitchen or no open space in the center of a home or office emotional imbalance can take place.

Unfortunately most modern architecture is based on function alone and is not designed to obey the forces of nature; sun, wind, water, climate and the planets. All ingredients of good health are enhanced when all areas of a residence are carefully positioned according to Vastu Shastra. When our environment is aligned with nature we gain its divine support, and our desire for health, wealth and happiness is manifested. We realize we are connected to every living thing and our willingness to harm that connection diminishes. However, when our environments are designed to conquer nature, we will feel the burden of stress, which contributes to unnecessary symptoms of aging.

The Yod - What is it, and how does it work

“A Yod, or Finger of God, is a configuration consisting of two planets in sextile with a third at their inverse midpoint, creating two quincunxes to the planets in sextile. A sextile is a 60 degree angle showing productivity and a natural structural soundness. Think snowflakes, or hexagonal crystal structures in nature.”

•The Yod – The finger of God -

“A Yod is formed when two planets make a sextile aspect and a third planet is opposite their mid-point. That third planet must make angles of 150 degrees with the other two. If you drew lines on the chart connecting the planets, you would get a Y-shaped formation that seems to point to one part of the horoscope.

•Aspects -

“Astrologers generally allow 2°- 12° of “leeway” for aspects. This “leeway” is called an orb. So two planets within this orb are considered to be in aspect. Some astrologers allow bigger orbs and some naturally enough allow less. The closer to exact the aspect the stronger, when the orb is very wide the influence may be quite weak. Standard orbs are given for each aspect. The modern theory of aspects espouses that by dividing the 360° circle by two gives us the opposition.

•Angle on Aspects -

“How the planets relate to each other is shown by the aspects they form. Angles between planets reflect attitudes and the energy patterns they have toward each other. They are like force fields that mark turns in consciousness. Aspects bring out facets, sides of the self and character traits”

•Configurations

-

“When three or more planets aspect one another mutually, they form an aspect structure, of which there are several different types. These are usually three-sided triangles or, less often, four-pointed structures, and even less often, more complex ones. Any structures forming in the heavens at any time indicate a temporal power-point, where a dominant chord sounds which has a very strong signal.

•Facets of the diamond: the cycle of the aspects -

“The nature of life is such that we are enabled to circumambulate the quintessential core of truth of life (whatever that is!) by experiencing facets of it, strung out in a movie-like storyline. Life is itself a cycle passing through many stages – if we experienced childhood, youth, maturity and old age at the same time we would not only get confused, but would also miss the main gist of what living on a planet is all about!

“3 Scenarios for Leo

When Leo is found in a certain house, we can expect one or more of the following experiences, depending on how much you’re able to express your true self without fear or shame:

1) Experience of Personal Significance – You feel like a rock star in that area of life: people love and honor you for who you are, and you love expressing this part (defined by the house) of yourself to others. You will most likely be elevated somehow in others’ eyes, in this life area.

•Yin and Yang energies-Complementary and non-existent without each other –

The workings of the universe is probably the most important, yet also the most ignored, topic. There have been various philosophies and explanations for the same in ancient scriptures of various civilisations. One of the most significant being the Chinese philosophy on the natural phenomenon of the universe, or the Tao, as mentioned in I Ching (the foundation of Chinese philosophy also known as the Book of Changes). The book explains the metaphysical workings of the entire universe and is the origin of what is called the Yin-Yang school of Chinese thought.

•About traditional 7 virtues and planets –

“One of the most famous and interesting subjects of Medieval art and astrological discussion was the thread of cardinal and theological virtues.

The word “virtue” comes from the Latin “vir“, i.e. man. Still in Latin culture the word did not indicate just masculine gender, but a moral code, an unwritten law more important than the written one.

I see somebody found this subject a little confusing, so I want to give some details about it.”

•Planets Maturiy –

Despite its great complexity, Vedic Astrology also offers a simple method of Prediction which gives remarkable results and should be taken into account when seeing a chart.
